The design of the 2nd pattern Tropical Combat Trousers concealed the buttons of the thigh cargo pockets and hip pockets behind flaps, which successfully alleviated the snagging problem that affected the first pattern. In common with the original design, the 2nd pattern trousers were made from OG-107 wind-resistant cotton poplin and featured:
- Gas flap behind the button fly
- Waistband button tabs, which allowed the waist size to be adjusted by two inches
- Leg ties in the thigh cargo pockets
- Leg bottom drawstrings
