VINTAGE USMC HBT FROGSKIN MODIFIED CAMOUFLAGE UTILITY JACKET WW2 SIZE 38

$800.00

Vintage Original USMC US Marine Corps Frogskin (or Duck Hunter) HBT Reversible Modified Camouflage Utility Coat Jacket 1942-1944 size 38. Twill Herringbone

United Carr Back Button

The 1942 Camo Utility Jacket shown on both side green and brown sides. The USMC camouflage utility uniform was similar in basic design to the plain green HBT utility uniform. The camouflage uniform featured snaps on the coat front and trouser fly rather than buttons. Since the camouflage uniform was reversible from a dominant green to a dominant tan color scheme, pockets were located on both the inside and outside of the coat and trousers. Only one lower pocket on each side of the coat and one front and one rear pocket on both sides of the trousers were available on the camouflage uniform. Initially, the Marine camouflage uniform was distributed to Raider and parachute battalions. However, they were soon manufactured in greater numbers and worn by men in artillery, supply and other support units.
The following study of camouflage items and experimental equipment is not intended to illustrate the typical American fighting man in the Pacific. On the contrary, these items are presented as they would have been tested by the Marine Corps and by the Navy Bureau of Supplies and Accounts in the U.S. or Hawaii. Some concepts were successful, others were not. The interest here is to present the items available in a realistic format and demonstrate their use, function and intended purpose.
The modified camouflaged utility uniform was designed specifically to carry a greater amount of ammunition and rations than the previous uniform design. The pockets on the un-modified camouflage uniform were too few and too small to carry any significant amount of essential supplies. With the added pocket space provided, additional support for the added weight was required as well. For this, metal grommets were provided above the belt line around the waist on the trousers. These corresponded with the hooks on the M1941 USMC equipment suspenders that were already in wide use.
